Tier 1 Points Based Scheme

Tier 1 has been separated into 4 categories:

            Tier 1 (General) Highly Skilled Workers

            Tier 1 (Entrepreneurs)

            Tier 1 (Investors)

            Tier 1 (Post- Study Work)

Tier 1 (General) - Highly Skilled Workers

This category is for persons who are highly skilled and replaces the previous scheme called Highly Skilled Migrant Programme. It allows you to come to the UK without a specific job offer to seek work or self- employment opportunities.

To qualify for Tier 1 (General) you will need to score 75 points. Points are awarded depending on attributes. Attributes are broken down between age, qualifications, previous earnings and experience in the UK. You will also need to score 10 points for English Language skills and Maintenance.

Tier 1 (Entrepreneurs)

This category is for individuals that wish to invest in the UK by setting up or taking over, and being actively involved in the running of one or more businesses in the UK.

For this category you will need to score 75 points. Points are awarded for attributes. Attributes are broken down between access to £200,000, the money being in a financial institution and the money being disposal in the UK. You will also need to score 10 points for English Language skills and Maintenance.

Tier 1 (Investors)

This category allows high net worth individuals to make a substantial financial investment in the UK.

For this category you will need to score 75 points. Points are awarded for attributes. Attributes are calculated on the individual having access to £1,000,000 that is disposal and in a financial institution or £2,000,000 in personal assets and £1,000,000 in a loan.

Tier 1 (Post Study Work)

This category is designed to retain the most able international students who have studied at a UK University. You are able to seek work without having a specified sponsor. This category also bridges the gap between highly skilled workers and skilled workers.

For this category you will need to score 75 points. Points are awarded for attributes. Attributes are broken down between into UK qualifications, study at a UK institution, immigration status during UK study and/ or research and date of award of the qualification. You will also need to score 10 points for English Language skills and Maintenance.
