New Control to protect jobs for the British Workforce
Monday, 7th September 2009
The UK Government announced a raft of new measures to ensure that the resident labour market will have every opportunity to fill vacanies before they are offered to workers from abroad.
The main changes are:
- From next year all jobs must be advertised to the resident job market for 4 weeks in the jobcentreplus instead of the current 2 weeks before a company can advertise the position overseas
- Overseas workers who want to transfer to work for their company's UK base will now need to have worked for the firm for at least 1 year instead of the current 6 months
- The minimum salary for a worker to qualify has a skilled worker will increase to £20,000 from £17,000
